Looking
for high quality locally produced wines and ciders? Try some of these - or look
for sources to produce your own.
Western
Washington produces fine wines from locally grown varieties of grapes. In a
climate similar to the classic French and German wine growing provinces, grapes
grown in this area mature with a complex, fruity flavor that is captured in
quality wines. The Puget Sound Wine
Growers have been designated with a regional appellation for the Puget Sound
area, and their wineries feature wines from locally grown grapes as well as
fruit and berry wines.
Hard (fermented)
cider was once a staple of the American farm. Long known in England and France,
hard cider is once more gaining an appreciation here. The special types of
apples used in hard cider making are particularly well adapted to conditions in
the Puget Sound area, and cider makers are taking advantage of this to produce
lively, refreshing ciders.
